Happy holidays totally desperate moms!
One of my very favorite activities of the holiday season is decorating the Christmas tree with my kids!
Actually, the kids do most of the decorating and I just watch, take pictures, smile, and enjoy watching them squeal with excitement as they hang all the ornaments in a clump.
I LOVE THE ORNAMENT CLUMP! And I leave it as is.
One of my least favorite activities of the holiday season mailing out Christmas cards.
It’s not that I don’t like keeping in touch with people or sending my love . . . actually, that’s part of the problem. I have too many people I want to send Christmas-card love too. That is what makes it stressful – too much time and money to send out all those cards.
So guess what? I don’t do it. Haven’t sent out Christmas cards for the last several years.
And the world still turns. I still have friends. I still receive (3) Christmas cards
Instead of mailing out cards, I send out an email. An email that usually involves some sort of an update on my family complete with few pics. And instead of including confetti in a card I send a link to the worst Hagen family photos. Forget the khakis and white shirts on the beach . . . I send the bad lighting, no make up, crying children, fingers in noses . . . real life pics of the Hagen family.
What is your favorite activity of the holiday season? (And this is not rhetorical – leave an answer in the comments)
Enjoy it, document it, be thankful for it.
What is your least favorite/most stressful activity of the holiday season? (Again, not talking to myself here. Leave a comment!)
Don’t do it. (Unless your answer is exercising or brushing your kids teeth.)
Reduce stress.
Just say no to something you don’t want to do or don’t like to do or don’t have time to do or can’t afford to do during the holiday season.
— If shopping is not your least favorite activity then head on over to Amazon and pick up a copy of my book Totally Desperate Mom: Keepin’ it Real in the Motherhood. Buy yourself an early Christmas present (I’ve bought myself presents and actually wrapped them up for myself – anyone else?) or pick up a few for some desperate mamas you know. And if they have young kids . . . they’re desperate.
— If shopping
is your least favorite activity and you simply like free stuff
and you are still reading this . . .
leave a comment to win a copy! Winners will be picked based on how many push-ups Annett Davis can do at one time

Gotta win one for the sisters. One has a 6 month old and the other is about to pop her first any minute!
favorite activity — Advent activities nightly with the family
least favorite — shopping for gifts and seeing holiday knick knacks around the house
My favorite activity is trekking thru the snowy woods to cut down our tree each year and then decorating it once we get back….also opening the advent calendars each day. Least favorite….shopping for those hard to buy for people each year.
My favorite activity during the holiday season is definitely the baking. I love having an excuse to make those extra batches of cookies – and sample the cookie dough in the process! You know, just to make sure it’s good
And since I’m totally a desperate mom, my least favorite thing about the holidays is… the struggle to actually make it to the kitchen to get to the baking! I may have only one son at this time, but he sure knows how to keep me busy
I love everything Christmas time…well, I don’t enjoy shopping b/c of the crowds, but besides that dreadful thing, I love the holidays. From Halloween through the New Year. I hate, however, taking down the decorations. That would be my least favorite thing.
Thank you for sharing your stories. I love your blogs and your honesty and knowing that it isn’t always so glamorous.

would love to win this book for my best friend who also goes insane on a daily basis with her kids!
Bless you!
I actually love receiving cards, so I send ours out too. I used to love making them myself…and I still do it (with slightly less love due to the craziness of the holidays with three kids and a hubby who works in retail) because it’s my tradition. but I will admit that I wish I hadn’t started the handmade tradition. Some day I’ll let it go…
I can always use another book. I have lots of people to give them to. With 18 grandchildren and lots of friends with little ones, I love giving your book out. My activity this month has been making my calendar for the next year on IPHOTO and putting all the pictures of everyone in the family on it. With all the grandchildren, children and spouses, plus other family members, each month takes 2-3 hours. It is a very lengthy process. Your Christmas tree picture above would definitely go on the calendar! I love it!! See you soon! love you!
By far, my favorite activity of the season is watching those hokey holiday movies that run on various channels – I LOVE them!! My least favorite is the complete disruption of everything “normal” in the house – it sends the whole fam into a tizzy! Oh, and dlkfjadsofasg!
dlkfjadsofasg …
My least favorite is trying to select gifts that the right balance of fun, thoughtful, tasteful, artsy, and meaningful.
Guess I can’t get out of that one though…
I love decorating the tree and putting lights up outside. Sending out Christmas cards is not my favorite, but we still do it. I take pictures from thoughout the year and make a photo card. I like the finished product coming to my front door in the mail, but I don’t like addressing envelopes.
i love picking out the card. i HATE addressing them though! and although i’ve had them ordered and sitting in the office for over a month i haven’t even begun addressing them. ugh. maybe this weekend. i just dread it. i do LOVE receiving cards though!
I have to read your book, mom of 2 year old twins and some days are way too desperate!!!
I absolutely LOVE sending and recieving Christmas cards. I spend HOURS upon HOURS designing for both myself and friends. I love to see how everyone has changed each year and I guess it is just the little bit of “old soul” left in me!
I haven’t ordered your book… so I am totally hoping to win it!

May you have a very blessed Christmas season!
I love shopping for people, I mostly buy gift cards but since I love wrapping little boxes I find cute little boxes to wrap them in. Then we have lots of little boxes under the tree. I love watching the kids look at their presents under the tree. However, I am with you on the cards, and I wish I had your guts. I am still a wimp and can’t wait till I let that one go, good thing for the techy age, I can see it resolving itself in a couple of years.
My least favorite part of Christmas is hearing any Christmas song by the Beach Boys. Seriously. Pet peeve.
Congrats Stacey! Send Annett or me your info ASAP so I can get this puppy shipped to you in time for Christmas!
