Today I made a decision to do something big. Something that will use up a lot of my brain cells, but something that will make a big difference. I’ve decided to Use What’s In My Pantry!!! Sounds like a no brainer I know, but for a person who loves the grocery store and everything in it like me, it’s a tough thing. I don’t know if you are like me or not, but I tend to buy some things some times and I don’t use it. For instance, one week I thought I wanted to make some quinoa with veggies because I had some at an event and really liked it. Well the box of quinoa is still sitting in my pantry! I have a lot in my pantry. In fact a family of 4 could probably live off of what’s in there for a couple of weeks! So, that’s my goal this coming week, to use what I have.
So, what is it going to take? First it’s going to take me doing an inventory. Then it’s going to take me mixing and matching items in the pantry to make a meal plan. I’m tired of putting things into my pantry and not using them, and I’m tired of my pantry being too full. Have you ever had 2 jars of something in your cabinet, or 3 bottles of the same seasoning. Well that’s the story of my pantry right now. I don’t know what’s in it, and it needs to be cleaned out!!!
The good thing about this week’s mission will be that as I get rid of some of the stuff in the pantry I’ll replace the items with more fresh items. Our goal as a family is to eat more fruit and veggies, eat less processed foods. Cleaning out the pantry will help us to reach this goal. My challenge to you is to clean out your pantry. Instead of stocking it with highly processed, sugary, salty items buy fresh things instead. (I will be posting a article next Monday on good things to have in your pantry). Your pantry does not have to be full! That’s what I used to think! I used to pride myself on having a full pantry thinking that a good cook must have a full pantry. No, a good cook has a well stocked pantry. I’m learning now that a smart good cook has a pantry stocked with highly nutritious things that will only benefit their families bodies. My question to you Fit Mom, is what’s in your pantry?
